Description

ACT is the National Counter Terrorism awareness initiative for businesses and organisations produced by NaCTSO to protect our cities and communities from the threat of terrorism.

The threat from terrorism is serious, but it is important to keep it in perspective. This threat comes principally from DAESH (also known as ISIL), Al Qaida, and groups and individuals who can be directed, encouraged or inspired by them. The level of threat is complex and ranges from crudely planned attacks to sophisticated networks pursuing ambitious and coordinated plots.

ACT Awareness is a briefing event to increase public and staff awareness of how best to reduce and respond to the most likely types of terrorist activities. The briefings are presented by Metropolitan Police Service Counter Terrorism Borough Support Police Officers trained to deliver a range of Counter Terrorism awareness modules.

The aim of ACT Awareness is to:

  • Help understand the threat from terrorism to the UK.
  • Guide individuals on what to do if they find themselves involved in a terrorist incident or events that lead up to a planned attack.
  • Enable people to recognise and report suspicious activity.

The briefings are free of charge and last for approximately two hours. They do require some audience participation. This venue may not have suitable parking facilities so it is advisable to use public transport where possible.

Attendees may be subject to search of themselves and/or their belongings. Metropolitan Police Service reserves the right to refuse entry to any person. There is to be no photography or filming during the briefing. If you require any information or slides, please speak to the presenters at the end of the session.
